Why memorials should stand

When I first hear about the Robert E. Lee’s memorials being taken down, I thought I am not going to get involved, someone might call me a hater.   Now I think what if someday someone says take down the 9-11 memorials? 9-11

or the Vietnam Veteran’s Wall , or get rid of all the WWII memorials?

Memorials are there for a reason.  We are not honoring those horrible men that drove airplanes, full of innocent people by the memorial.

We are honoring all those who died. The Robert E. Lee Memorials should have stayed not to honor Robert E. Lee; but to honor all those that died during the civil war.  To remind us that our country was so divided that we went to war.  To remind us why we need to become a United Country.  To remind us what goes wrong if we forget. another 9-11 memoril- PA

How would you feel if the real cross, was still standing and some group decided that it represented a bad point in history  for the Roman Government (now defunct) And this group wanted to rewrite history to make ancient Rome seem less brutal than it was?  See where I am going?  Sure Christiananity would not fall; it is just a symbol to remind us that Christ died for us.  Perhaps the south should have a Union memorial?  Has anyone ever seen a Union memorial?  There should be.  So will any memorial do?  I am sure that we can come up with a more tasteful statue to memorialize the civil war- Maybe Harriet Tubman?  Or pictures of horrific battle fields.

The point is tomorrow is 9-11 and who really cares anymore?  It was almost 20 years ago. The pictures of the burning towers are rarely seen.  I remember that day as if it were yesterday.  Do you remember why there are 9-11 memorials in Western Pennsylvania? Or Washington D.C? 113398410DC mememorial 9 11

I REMEMBER DO YOU?

If you remember pass the stories. Don’t let the younger generation forget that there are cray people out there.  People crazy enough to fly into skyscrapers. People that believe in their cause so much that not alone will they die for it; they will take others with them. Just like in the civil war, people so bent on their own ideas that they waged war and tore our country in two over it.  Just like all wars; there are people that believe in their cause so much that will die for it and take others with them.

#ProverbsChallenge Day 31 The Hardest one

This one is the hardest because of misinterpretations.  I don’t want to detract from Proverbs 31 ministries, they do great work.  However, there are groups out there that misinterpret this Proverb.  They for get that it is a King speaking repeating the words his mother, the Queen taught him.  She taught him how to find a good Queen.  Not that they qualities can apply to you and I,  We just have to remember that this woman was not super woman.  She did not “Bring home the Bacon, Fry it up in a pan”  She did not keep the house clean, the children feed, take care of all the chores and everything for the children BY HERSELF!.  PLEASE LET THAT SINK IN- SHE DID NOT DO EVERYTHING BY HERSELF.  She was  Queen, she had servants.  (verse 15).

It is just saying that a good wife works.  It does not mean that you have to have a CAREER other than being wife and mom.  Trust me that is work!!!! For those that work outside of the home, you don’t have to do everything by yourself.  God made Eve equal to her husband Adam.  Genesis 2:18 (an often over-looked verse):  18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

See God made husbands and wives to be partners and if someone is trying to say that you are do to everything the Queen did, just remember she did not do it all alone.  She directed everything to be done and she helped do the work. She did not do it all alone.

The sayings of King Lemuel—an inspired utterance his mother taught him.

Listen, my son! Listen, son of my womb!
    Listen, my son, the answer to my prayers!
Do not spend your strength on women,
    your vigor on those who ruin kings.

It is not for kings, Lemuel—
    it is not for kings to drink wine,
    not for rulers to crave beer,
lest they drink and forget what has been decreed,
    and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.
Let beer be for those who are perishing,
    wine for those who are in anguish!
Let them drink and forget their poverty
    and remember their misery no more.

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
    for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly;
    defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Epilogue: The Wife of Noble Character

10 A wife of noble character who can find?
    She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
    and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
    all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
    and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
    bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
    she provides food for her family
    and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
    out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
    her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
    and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
    and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
    and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
    for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
    she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
    where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
    and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
    she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
    and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
    and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
    her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
    but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
    but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
    and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

#ProverbsChallenge Day 29

10 The bloodthirsty hate a person of integrity and seek to kill the upright.

The Pharisees were blood thirsty.  They had a man of integrity killed.

forgive

God even uses the fools to complete his perfect plan of salvation.

Because the Pharisees proved to be fools; yet God used them to bring our Salvation.

Think about some time in your life where God used evil to bring good.

Proverbs Challenge Day 28

Keep going you are almost through the challenge!

Evildoers do not understand what is right, but those who seek the Lord understand it fully.

God is the Light and when we pursue the light, we become more like the LIGHT!

I know it is hard t always do the right thing.  Someone cut me off this morning and my first instinct was to rush up on them and put on my high beams and blow my horn at them.  Instead I just said oh well, no harm done.  I didn’t have an accident.  Not my monkey.  truck passing adjusted

The old me, before I really started journeying with Christ, was a bit more aggressive. However, with Christ I am learning to let go of things that are not in my control.  The Jac-O’s are things that I can’t control.  Like the “snail” race on the highway.  We can’t do anything about it so let it go.  At least until there is a chance to get around the truck that the other trucks are passing.  But if we respond aggressively, we become as big of a threat as the Jac-O that cut us off.

P.S.  if you are from Pittsburgh the term Jac-O needs no explanation.  If you are, it is not very nice.

Proverbs Challenge Day 27 Being the Light

19 As water reflects the face,  so one’s life reflects the heart.

mirror

Even when we think no one is watching someone is watching.  When we behave poorly there is someone that sees.  Unfortunately, if someone sees us behaving poorly, it takes a long time to undo the damage.  This is true even if it was an isolated incident.

We are no longer able to positively influence those that have seen or heard about an incident where we have behaved in a less than Christian manner.  It is sad if it is our kids.  We are charged with bringing up our children as Godly people.  If our example is not Godly how can we raise them correctly?

I know that it is impossible to be perfect, and one oops doesn’t put our Light out.  However, we need to strive to Godly examples.  If people see that we are good examples most of the time, they will still see God in us.

Proverbs Challenge Day 25: Forgive

My apologies this is a day late. But I actually chose a verse about this.  self-control also know as self-discipline.  Often when we fail it is our own fault.  We plan well, we have a good idea, but we lack on the execution. Yesterday’s failure was a lack of planning.         forgive

How to have  a much needed family fun day, and still post the daily proverbs challenge?  The answer is easy take a some time before the event. But see I let the day take itself and  blew off this challenge. Instead of beating myself up and dropping it because I failed; I forgave myself because we all make mistakes.  When we make a mistake, we look at it decide what went wrong and then pick it back up.  If the plan or idea was bad, we adjust.  However, if the reason is poor execution, then we pick up were we left off and fix the problem.   Remembering that is what the cross is about: FORGIVENESS

28 Like a city whose walls are broken through  is a person who lacks self-control.

Proverbs Challenge Day 24 lying

26 An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

Everyone hates to discover that they have been lied to.  It is a horrible feeling when someone tells you a lie. Especially if they are someone that you love, you know the inner circle.  Yet we justify lies all the time.  I didn’t want to hurt their feelings.  I would rather you tell me the truth. The worst is when someone is pretending to be your friend, but they are plotting behind your back.

So if God doesn’t like for us to lie, and we are supposed to treat others the way we want to be treated; then why do we tell lies?

My challenge for you is to face a situation where you would normally lie, and tell the truth.

Proverbs Challenge Day 17

15 Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent— the Lord detests them both.

Justice is supposed to be blind, but lately it seems as if people are guilty until you can prove that you are innocent.  And the “innocent” always have money.  As Christian, we have a responsibility to stand for justice.  I am sure that there are many who feel this way, but are not willing to do anything for justicefear a target may be painted on your back.  I have this fear too.  But as a Christian, when our government is broken, we are to pray and leave it to God. He will heal our land.  He will restore justice.

2 Chronicles 7: 14: if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Proverbs Challenge Day 6 The Ant

Proverbs 6: 6-11:  Talks about not being lazy.  Which given my current condition, is a struggle.  I have been dealing with some health issues for some time now.  I felt that God was telling me to focus on my health. Take some time.  But then I think about verses such as these, talking about doing. And I feel as if I am being lazy.  Neither my husband nor God saw me that way. I was allowing Satan to influence my thought pattern. God sees me as following his instructions.  However, I was used to going 100 mph and prayed to God to give me something so I don’t feel so worthless. When you are used to caring for everyone and then all of a sudden you can’t; it is easy to feel worthless. (Don’t give in to Satan’s jabs)

It is how I started writing this blog.  I am working on taking it a step further. Finding a way to make money that allows me to exercise and go to all my doctor appointments.  I am working on it.  But God has a plan and I will wait for his plan to unfold.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. How long will you lie there, you sluggard?  When will you get up from your sleep? 10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—11 and poverty  will come on you like a thief  and scarcity like an armed man.
