Proverbs Challenge Day 22 live generously

The generous will themselves be blessed,  for they share their food with the poor.

I am poor, how do I live generously?  Do you remember the widow and the two mites? (Luke 21:1-4)  The old widow lived generously.  She learned that when we help others, God always blesses.  Sometime when we need it, God’s blessing will come back to us. Our job is to give and have faith that God will always provide.

Proverbs Challenge Day 21

31 The horse is made ready for the day of battle,  but victory rests with the Lord.

Every day we are at battle.  The Evil one would love for us to put down our guard and allow him to rule with fear, anxiety, hate, and leave us feeling powerless.

Ephesians 6:10-18, describes the “Armor of God” horse that we must pick up daily to prevent the evil one from taking over our lives.  We must be diligent because he diligently seeks ways into our life.  As some of you may remember, I was recently diagnosed with AFIB. I became afraid of doing anything. My digestive track even stopped working, this combined with the pain from muscle spasms caused me to one seek help and two realize that although I thought I was leaning on God, I was allowing fear to rule my life.  It has been a long couple of months.  I was living minute by minute afraid that my pulse would elevate (and it was) and then I would die a horrible painful death.  It has only been a few weeks since I realized that my fear was making me worse and I m feeling tons better.  My fasting blood sugar is back down to under 100 which although I am still not able to check it without fear striking, I am certain that my blood pressure is lower.  My digestive track is starting to function normally.  I have returned to putting on the ARMOR OF GOD.

Proverbs Challenge Day 20

27 The human spirit is the lamp of the Lord that sheds light on one’s inmost being.

lamp-lightWe are called to be the Light of the world. But how can I be a good light to the world, when I feel so miserable?

It starts with one tiny act of kindness at a time.

Perhaps today you smile at someone that you wouldn’t normally even acknowledge.

Perhaps you allow the person with one item in the line in-front of your cartful.

Perhaps you tell someone that that blouse makes their eyes shine.

Perhaps you offer to help one person.

Here is the thing, when we feel miserable, it helps us feel better when we help someone else. As we show God’s love to others, we let our light shine.  After-all, it is Jesus shining through us.

Proverbs Challenge Day 19

20 Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.

Don’t you wish that you could discipline your adult children? I know I do.  Sometimes even though we have instructed our children well, they stray.  But God promises that if we instruct out children well, they will return.  We learn that with the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32)

When our children stray, as a parent, we wonder if we went wrong, what we could of done better.  We disciplined them, made them graduate high school, helped them go to college, but most of all we took them to church.

The hardest thing to accept is that we can’t control anyone especially not our children, we can nurture them, guide them, but we can’t make them behave the way we want them to behave. We can’t even make them believe in Jesus.

There is one thing we can do,

PRAY.  God answers the prayers of the righteous (James 5:16.)

Proverbs Challenge Day 18

15 The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge,  for the ears of the wise seek it out.

heart flowers

How can I know if my heart is discerning, I think that I am seeking new information. As yourself where are you seeking knowledge? Are you listening to someone’s unproven theory?  In today’s world it is really hard to determine what is fact, so much fake news.  There are people claiming to be experts that aren’t.  People who claim this will …. and it won’t.  A few years ago, I bought this pan, it promised that it wouldn’t stick, it would evenly distribute heat, and it wouldn’t require any oil.  Maybe I used the pan incorrectly, maybe I bought a knock-off, or maybe it just wasn’t everything it claimed to be. One thing I didn’t do, I didn’t ask around to see if anyone bought the product. I didn’t read any reviews. Wisdom investigates, wisdom holds it up to the Bible standards. How do they back up their claims?  If you have been doing #ProverbsChallenge, you know the Bible repeats important messages.  We should expect everything to back up important messages.

Proverbs Challenge Day 17

15 Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent— the Lord detests them both.

Justice is supposed to be blind, but lately it seems as if people are guilty until you can prove that you are innocent.  And the “innocent” always have money.  As Christian, we have a responsibility to stand for justice.  I am sure that there are many who feel this way, but are not willing to do anything for justicefear a target may be painted on your back.  I have this fear too.  But as a Christian, when our government is broken, we are to pray and leave it to God. He will heal our land.  He will restore justice.

2 Chronicles 7: 14: if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Proverbs Challenge Day 16 Gray-hair

As we grow older, we dread getting gray hairs, it means we are old.  Bu Proverbs tells us that Gray Hair is a crown of Splendor.   Yet we dye our hair to keep looking younger.  All because we see ourselves not as God does but by man’s design.  When we look at ourselves as God sees us we realize that we are marvelous creations. After all isn’t she beautiful?

Proverbs 16: 31: Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.

Proverbs Challenge Day 15

Proverbs 15:18, is a verse whose message has been repeated throughout Proverbs.  I have had to correct this in my own life.  My husband, by the way, is the calm one, without his calmness and ability to correctly deal with my hot-temperateness; we would not be celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary this month.   I was guilty of being the woman that tore down her house (Proverbs 14:1).  However, ugly we may become, there is always hope when we read the Word of God, He works within our heart and changes us.  #FRESHSTARTS #SECONDCHANCES

18 A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel

Proverbs Challenge Day 14 Helping Others

soup kitchen     31   Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker,    but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.

It can be hard to determine who are needy.  A few years ago in our town, there was a man that made it hard for anyone that might really be needy.  He stood at a corner day after day panhandling. Finally the news did a story. He had a nice home and truck.  He didn’t have a job, but he took advantage of people’s generosity. Does that mean that we should stop giving? Or stop helping others? No, the truth is most people that ask for help need help.  More often than not people don’t ask for help. Sometimes help is just a small hand.  Anyone want to help me get my yard cleaned? I have some volunteer trees that need to go.
