Walking on a picket fence, Even for 10

Hello,  Sometimes I find myself walking on a picket fence, knowing that something is wrong not wanting to hurt people’s feelings divided on how to handle an uncomfortable situation. Not wanting to sound as if I am judging someone.

Sometimes I see people walking in the gray area and God says that person is not one in your path.  Then it is easy, they hit my radar but I am not supposed to reach out to them.  I am to pray for them.  When this happens, I have learned to not sin by reaching out to them anyway.  I am not a super Christian able to reach every person that crosses my path.  Sometimes those people that cross my path are there because I need them.  God sent them to help me.

Our nation is standing on a picket fence.  Or at least that is how it seems to me.  One side seems to want complete control of our lives.  They are willing to do anything to get it.

As Christians we should beware of the untruths that are being spread.

If we don’t accept the side that is trying to control everything we are called all sorts of bad names.  They don’t accept that if I say okay you do that but I don’t approve; that is my right.  They want everyone to believe exactly how they believe.

The early church had that problem.  Deceivers everywhere trying to change the Salvation message, the word of God.

Jude: 17-23:

17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18 They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.

20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

22 Be merciful to those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.

I guess I just jumped off the fence.  I am on the Lord’s side. The deceivers are wrong. Bring on your bad names you haters of God. God is my choice. I have been on this side for some time now, I just have been silent. Which is wrong. I hear people say there is evil afoot and no one can stop it.  God can if we believe if we ask. God Can. I understand that if the bowls have been poured there is no going back.

Remember Sodom and Gomorrah?

How about What Abraham asked God?

Genesis 18:

22 The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord.23 Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare[e] the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?25 Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

26 The Lord said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

27 Then Abraham spoke up again: “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes, 28 what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five people?”

“If I find forty-five there,” he said, “I will not destroy it.”

29 Once again he spoke to him, “What if only forty are found there?”

He said, “For the sake of forty, I will not do it.”

30 Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?”

He answered, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”

31 Abraham said, “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?”

He said, “For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it.”

32 Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?”

He answered, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.”

33 When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

If God’s people repent, if God’s people pray, God can stop the evil.

life changes learning how to slow the pace

I am just writing a few words about #LifeWithJeus.

There are days when at the end of the day, I feel like I am losing while other days, I think I am winning.  There are days when I go to bed so exhausted that I have trouble going to sleep.  My vitals are monitored daily.  I hate to do it because if the numbers aren’t low enough, then I am stressed which doesn’t help anything.  But through all this Jesus has been there.  He is teaching me that what the doctors and I think are most important are not always important.  Sitting for half an hour to get the stress free BP can be annoying. But It is necessary.  So I pray and ask God to help me be patient.

Through this, I have realized that I have lost focus on the big picture.  Jesus.

The picture is clear, I see it in my mind’s eye.  Today I heard a clear message, stop worrying about my health and return to living.  Sure I need to pay attention to following my doctor’s advice; I just can’t make it my main focus. (Please don’t tell my husband)

He is still in the “I almost lost you stage”.  I have been so focused on staying calm, that it is all I do.  What I should be focusing on is Jesus.  He is telling me to focus on not rushing.  See my health went south because I rushed and rushed but I never got ahead. There was always something that if this were… I was trying to make everything perfect.  Because everyone would be happy if everything were perfect.  The truth is I was making everyone miserable trying to make everything perfect.  I was not happy.  I knew my vitals were bad but I didn’t take them enough to convince anyone that things were horrible wrong.  I heard people say take care of yourself.  Sure I do.  No I didn’t.  I thought I did.  I would get my hair done regularly, I worried that my outfit matched, shaved my legs, checked myself for cuts or bruises that weren’t healing.

That is not taking care of yourself.  That is making yourself presentable to the world.  What the world doesn’t realize is that I don’t care if things are out-of-place or mismatched. it is a huge stressful chore worrying about all that stuff.

Taking care of yourself means eating well, getting sleep, spending time with Jesus. Finding time to relax.  Each person relaxes in a different way.  Some people find playing Candy Crush relaxing Okay great for you.

I find baking relaxing.  I need to find people to eat the back goods.  I an accomplished baker. If it goes in the oven I got it.  If it is on top of the stove, well it is good but not great. I bake casseroles, cakes, cookies, meatloaf, spaghetti sauce, brownies, pies, (okay I am weak on pies), chicken – I do bake a pot pie that is out of this world good.  I am not such a hot pizza pie baker.  I am also not the best bread baker.  I either forget the bread and am baking at midnight or I don’t start it soon enough and hasn’t had enough time to raise.

Baking makes me think about how Jesus is with us.  We want to take short cuts, but in baking short cuts ruin everything. Jesus wants us to go through all the paces.

Trying to jump through the steps is like baking bread without any salt.

Proverbs Challenge Day 8

Sorry this is a day late.  Yesterday was a prime example of how The Evil one can push and pull to take you away from what is important.  God and seeking His wisdom.  I apologize.

Proverbs 8: 1: Does not wisdom call out?  Does not understanding raise her voice?

Wisdom is there for the finding we just have to seek it.  It is on the path  in front of our feet.  That is one thing I learned about God long ago, He wants us to seek Him. It requires stillness.  I know what you are thinking, I barely have time to read the word, let alone still and be still thinking nothing or Okay God.  I started the same way I get back on track with reading His word, a verse a day, or a minute a day.  Then gradually increasing how much I read, or in this case; how long I stay still and listen for God to guide me.  On some occasions God guides me immediately.  On other occasions, I have to wait days even weeks to hear His Guidance. It depends on how quickly I need to know.

Proverbs Challenge Day 1

Here it is August first, 2018; I promised my #Proverbs#Challenge would begin today.

Reading Proverbs is easy, the chapters are short.

  • Please be sure to leave a comment especially if you read a chapter and don’t understand something.

I want to share this verse:

proverbs 1 chapter 1

Wisdom is out there, we just have to look for it.  The Bible is full of Wisdom.

Finding your path

Hall County Park, Nebraska

Trust means depending on something that we can’t see.  But we can feel.  The more we depend on God, the easier it is to feel his presence.  Sometimes, I take time away from actually studying the word.  Reading a scripture here and there is not the same as studying the word.  Oh sure reading a verse here and there is better than not reading at all. But to feel  God requires studying the Word. John 1 reminds us that God is the word and the word is God. We need to immerse ourselves in the word.  Feel the word of God.  Then our paths become easier to see.  For God is the lamp and the better we learn about God the easier it is to see the light.  Do you feel as if you don’t have time to study the word? Try this, read for 5 minutes a day.  Do it for two weeks.  Then every two weeks add five minutes.  It doesn’t have to be all at one time.  Five minutes at the beginning of the day and five minutes at the end of the day.  You can find five minutes here and there a couple of times a day can’t you?  Next try reading for five minutes during your lunch.  See where I am going with this.  You don’t have to sit down and read for a full 30 minutes at a time, not at first.  If you can’t manage five minutes, try three minutes at a time.  Deuteronomy  4, much of Proverbs, teaches that seeking wisdom is better than seeking money; and the best wisdom comes from God.  if you want to feel God’s direction in your life, read the Word. It is the easiest way.  It only takes a few minutes of your day.  The easiest way to get started, download several Bible apps.  Each one has the verse of the day and about a minute to read give yourself a couple of minutes to digest and fully appreciate the verse.  Repeat for each app before you know it, you will want to spend time reading the word. As you read the word, you will increase your understanding.

Anger, Wisdom, and Peace

There are days when it is hard to keep control of our temper.  I was no exception.  But these days, I am finding it easier.  It is a matter of prayer and deciding what is important.  Is it life or death?  Is eternity at stake? If the answer is no, then it doesn’t matter. So what if someone re-posts a devotional that I have written without giving me credit.  Truth is I am honored, it means I was listening when God was whispering.  God used me to inspire someone.  Not to mention that the message, the important part, is being spread.  To God be the Glory.  I mentioned eternity at stake, God doesn’t need me to fight for him. He needs me to spread His word.

My job is spread the message in a manner that people hear God’s word.  I always hoped that I could spread God’s word through the spoken word. But that is not my gift.
My gift is to write, not necessarily a big audience but I trust God that those that will benefit from what I write receive.

The course of action, no longer allowing myself to try to control everything, I finally get balance and self-care. It doesn’t require a lot of action. It requires giving things to God and only handling the things he inspires me to do. Wisdom

Actions taken through wisdom, prayer, time in the word, and speaking to God (a listening activity) Those things bring peace.

Two Sides of the Same Coin

Recently, I was reading about Martha and Mary and I had a new Epiphany.

I went further to the story of Lazarus’ death.  I learned that Martha and Mary are two sides of the same coin.

See in one part of the story Martha is busy with meal preparation and irritated at her sister for not helping.  I always thought perhaps Martha could have made a simpler meal.  I know with my family sometimes those meals where I cook a bit of meat, make some garlic bread, and then throw whatever else is in the fridge onto the table where better than the Thanksgiving meal I spent hours preparing.

I thought Martha didn’t have balance.  I was right to a point. See Martha had faith, she heard what Jesus said and accepted it at once as true. Martha’s problem was is sometimes she gets so busy taking care of others, she forgets to take care of herself. She forgets to study the Word, spend time in prayer, and just being silent listening to God. Yes, all the other stuff that we think of when we say self-care goes with it.  But the bottom line is if we don’t nourish our souls,  all the physical stuff doesn’t matter.

Now let’s talk about Mary.  Mary was the one that needed a bit more instruction.  I am not saying that one way is right and the other way is wrong.  It is just a different side of the same coin. Mary spent more time paying attention to her soul.  Maybe it helped her in the long run who knows. What Mary forgot is that sometimes people around her need help.  Sometimes we have to forget about ourselves and help others.

Both sisters have short comings.  Both need balance.  Previously, I missed that point. Previously, I only saw Martha’s shortcomings.  Maybe the fact that I am a Martha has something to do with it.  But it makes me feel so much better knowing that Mary has short comings as well.

Us, Martha’s we hear and say oh, that is logical, or oh that is not logical, where does it say that in the Bible? Mary’s on the other hand, (and I used to be a Mary) listen and listen and wait forever to develop an opinion. But when we do develop it, it is hard for Mary’s to see a different point of view.

Martha’s on the other hand tend to be open to seeing things in a different light.

Whether you are predominately a Mary or a Martha, you have a tendency to forget the other side of the coin.  Either you forget that you have to apply what you learned, or you forget to spend time learning more.

Am I ever going to eat a meal by myself again?

Hebrews 13:16 tells us to do good, to share with others.  Many people share, the question is how do you share?  Do you share gladly?  Or do you share because the Bible tells you that you should?  There have been times in my life, when I shared because it was the right thing to do.  My heart really wasn’t in sharing or giving.

One time really sticks out in my head, it is silly, but it really happened.  My son was about 4 months old, already eating soft solid foods.  I had feed him, made a meal and sat down to eat. He wanted me to share my food with him.  I was rather irritated. I shared, but my heart wasn’t in it.  My thoughts were something like this: “Am I ever going to eat a meal by myself again?”  It is a thought many young mothers feel.

What do we do when someone asks can I borrow? especially if it is the person that never returns anything?  We are supposed to share.  I really think it depends on what you can afford to replace if you aren’t expecting to get it back.  There is a point when it is okay to say no but Jesus said that we are supposed to give to the one who borrows:

Matthew 5: 40-42: 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

Why are we supposed to give like this?  Not because Jesus says, but because we love Jesus.  Because we love Jesus, we want to share His love with others. This is just one way we share Jesus.

Unconditional Love

As I sit here and pet my small dog, I think of how she loves me unconditionally.  No matter what, she is there ready to cuddle, play or give me little kisses.  She is so tiny yet has so much love.

It reminds me of how Jesus loves us, unconditionally. He does not care about our past only our future. He loves everyone even those who have not yet accepted him. Forgiveness is free we just have to accept him as our savior.   There are gifts that come with Salvation.  Gifts such as peace, everlasting life, hope, and everlasting JOY.

Does Jesus expect anything from us.  No he does not expect us to do anything but Love and Honor Him.

When we Love Jesus unconditionally, we love others unconditionally.  It is not something that we intend to do, it just happens.  Just like my little dog, who weaseled her way into my heart, with her unconditional love.  I found myself loving her back.  I bought her as a pet without any idea of how she would change our lives.

Through her, I have learned to be more open to people. See that is one of those things Jesus does, he brings people or in this case an animal into our lives so we can grow into better people.

Sometimes, he brings people into our lives so we can share His Love with them.

Like my little dog was an example for me, I have to be an example for others. He places people into our lives that don’t know him or maybe have heard of Jesus, but do not understand His way.

Unlike our pets, we have to learn to Love unconditionally.

Sometimes the people he puts into our lives are hard to love.

It would be nice if we could all love as a pet does. But there are days when I have to pray for grace. I have to pray and ask God to show me how to love those people. I ask God why are they in my life. And I hear because they need to learn how to love unconditionally.

Think of all the unkind people in your life.  Think of how much they need Jesus.  Think about how you will feel when you realize the tiny seed that you planted helped lead them to Jesus. Because you were a good example even when you did not want to be.  Even when you found the person disgusting or irritating.

See Jesus tells us to go out into the world. If we follow His example, we will remember that he associated with prostitutes, tax collectors, and sinners.  He had very little time for the So called Men of God, the Pharisees and the Sadducees.  They did not share God’s love with their fellow-man.  Instead they walked around pious with an attitude that they were better than everyone else.  They were the men Jesus stood against.  They were also the ones that God used to make Jesus the sacrificial lamb for our sins.

Jesus puts us in place to share His love.  He uses crap that man piles on us to share His light in the darkest places. Something we can’t do if we think we are better or have not learned to love unconditionally as He does.
